Keep members training, not leaving, with cooling and fresh air sized for a packed class.
A person exercising hard gives off several times more heat and moisture than someone sitting at a desk. A full spin or HIIT class can turn a studio hot and humid in minutes.
Treadmills, lighting and big glass frontages add more. Hot, stuffy gyms mean poor reviews, cancelled memberships and staff complaints.
A gym needs enough cooling for peak classes, not just an average day. It also needs fresh air: split AC recirculates room air and does not replace mechanical ventilation.
Workplace rules. HSE guidance says workplaces should normally be at least 16°C (13°C for strenuous work). There is no legal maximum, but employers must keep the temperature "reasonable" and assess heat as a risk. Your coaches and staff count.Energy. Buildings with more than 12kW of air conditioning in total need a TM44 energy inspection at least every five years. Systems above the F-Gas thresholds also need regular leak checks with records kept. We will tell you what applies. We install overnight, in the evening or at weekends so the gym stays open.
